Making . learning . Happen
Reading Boys. Kendrick. One programme. Proven results.
In 2026, 4 of our students earned grammar school places.
2 students at Reading Boys Grammar School starting Year 7 September 2026. 2 students at Kendrick School for Girls starting Year 7 September 2026.
Both started with us in Year 3 or Year 4. Both came out of their exams smiling.
We do not guess at what these exams require. Our founder’s own four children earned their places at Reading Boys and Kendrick using this same programme. We know these exams from the inside.
Reading Boys Grammar School
- 8th best school in England. Free. Local. One exam. Starting in Year 5.
- Over 1,100 boys compete for just 150 places that is 7 boys for every 1 place.
- From 2026, boys sit the entrance exam in mid-July, at the END of Year 5 before the summer holidays.
- This is a critical change most families do not yet know about.
Urgent Message
A boy entering Year 5 in September has less than one school year before the exam. The exam covers 12 different subjects. Building real knowledge and confidence across all 12 subjects takes 2 to 3 years not months. Year 3 is the ideal time to start. Year 4 is the latest we recommend. Year 5 start: very little time. We will always try our best but we will always be honest with you about what is possible.
Creative Writing
Creative Writing is one of the most heavily tested subjects in the Reading Boys exam. We prepare boys for Creative Writing from Year 3 using our purpose-built booklets. This is not something that can be learned in a few weeks. It needs time, practice, and regular feedback. Our students who came out smiling in 2026 had been developing their Creative Writing skills for 2 to 3 years.
The 12 Subjects Your Son Will Be Tested On
The Reading Boys Grammar School entrance exam is not just about Maths and English. Your son will be assessed across 12 different subjects, many of which families are not aware of. Creative Writing, in particular, is heavily tested and often the area where children struggle the most. True preparation means building confidence and knowledge across all subjects over time not rushing in the final months.

Kendrick School For Girls
- 15th best school in England. Free. Local. Testing two subjects no school teaches.
- Over 1,000 girls compete for just 128 places that is nearly 8 girls for every 1 place.
- Girls sit the Kendrick entrance exam in mid-September, at the start of Year 6.
The 4 Subjects
1. Maths covered in school, but at a deeper level for the exam.
2. English comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing skills.
3. Verbal Reasoning not taught at school. Must be learned from scratch.
4. Non-Verbal Reasoning not taught at school. Must be learned from scratch.
VR and NVR
VR AND NVR Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning are not taught in primary school. These are subjects your daughter has never encountered in the classroom. They must be learned from scratch through years of structured, consistent practice. Girls who start in Year 3 have the time to build these skills slowly and confidently without any stress. Girls who start in Year 5 have to rush. And for these subjects, rushing does not work. Both of our 2026 Kendrick students started with us in Year 3 or Year 4.
